Job Families & Career Paths

Creating Career Pathways at Georgia Tech.

Georgia Tech is committed to attracting, retaining, and fostering career growth for our staff. To do this, we are building a comprehensive career system that fully integrates job responsibilities, performance management, and career development while creating a consistent approach to all staff jobs at the Institute. Once the full career system is implemented, employees will have a clear framework to plan, navigate, and advance their careers at Tech.

Building our new career system is a multi-year journey with two critical milestones. The first milestone is the job architecture framework, which includes job family implementation. The second milestone includes a performance evaluation model that promotes career growth.

Framework

Phase I - Job Framework (In-progress)

Establish an updated job framework for staff with twelve job families, updated job profiles, and defined career levels.

Phase II - Performance Model (Future)

Implement an updated performance evaluation model that supports and promotes career growth.

What is a Job Family?

A Job family is a collection of jobs that are grouped by the nature of work performed. Job families can be refined into functional areas that are recognizable across industries and organizations.

This grouping helps categorize and organize roles systematically, allowing the organization to better manage its workforce, establish fair compensation structures, and plan for career development and progression.

What Does this Mean For You?

Our new comprehensive career system will redefine how we approach, manage, and navigate careers at Georgia Tech. Once fully implemented, employees will have the tools and resources to plan their career paths. The new structure empowers employees to make informed career development decisions and advocate for their career goals.

Our first milestone is job framework implementation. During implementation, employees will move from their current JCCS role into an equivalent role in the new job family. There will be no salary changes, promotions, or demotions for employees as a direct result of the job family implementation.

Proposed Job Family Implementation Schedule

Our new job family architecture will be implemented in four waves through FY2026.
