Frequently Asked Questions

What is Georgia Tech’s standard work model?

On-campus, in-person work will become the standard beginning with the 2025–2026 academic year, effective Aug. 1. The Institute will be staffed during core business hours Monday through Friday and determined by the business needs of the unit. Exceptions will be approved for specific, limited circumstances and require a formal request.  To complete a request for telework visit: GT ASC HR Services

What happens to preexisting Working @Tech arrangements?

All existing Working@Tech Arrangements for non-faculty staff positions were frozen on April 30 and can remain effective until July 31 with supervisor agreement. Requests to maintain fully remote or hybrid working arrangements must be submitted and approved through the ServiceNow request for Teleworking Arrangements. Employees who were hired into roles that were designated as hybrid or remote must submit a request and approval process. Flexible work arrangements may be discontinued or revised at any time. The employee, supervisor, and/or designated authority may end the arrangement by providing written notice a minimum of 14 calendar days in advance

Are faculty required to complete telework agreement requests?

Faculty are not currently required to submit a telework request in the HR instance of ServiceNow. However, faculty members who have staff reporting to them will be required to review and approve telework requests. Faculty will maintain their on-campus presence as required in fulfilling their instructional, scholarly, service, and student mentorship duties.

*GTRI employees will continue using JIRA while maintaining the same approval process

What specific, limited circumstances are eligible for telework?

If applicable, employees can request reasonable accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The Office of Equal Opportunity, Compliance, and Conflict Management (EOCCM) receives reasonable accommodation requests due to disability, pregnancy, or religion. EOCCM makes recommendations based on a review of an employee’s essential functions, individual medical needs, limitations, accessibility or related – concerns. Learn more at eoc.gatech.edu/employee-accommodations.

Other requests for hybrid or remote telework arrangements must meet specific criteria outlined in the formal request process. The criteria are as follows:

  • Service Delivery Model conducive to Remote Work
A service delivery model is a plan that explains how services are given to clients or customers.
  • Business needs of the College/School/Department
Business needs are the fundamental tasks an organization must have and do operate effectively.
  • Critical Skills/High Needs Job Type
Critical skills are essential abilities and competencies required to execute tasks of high demand. Critical Skills also describe roles that are hard to fill.
  • Other Approval Considerations
If a supervisor selects “Other” as a reason to approve a telework agreement, they will need to provide a justification that is closely related to one of the reasons above. There is a 1000-character space limit provided for this justification.
