Employment Verification

Georgia Tech's Records Department provides verification of employment for various reasons. Employees are able to assist you if you submit a request to the Records Department below using the Georgia Tech Verification form. 

Additionally, to help make employment verification easier, Georgia Tech has partnered with The Work Number®, an automated service that protects your personal information during the verification process. This secure service is used when you apply for a mortgage or loan, a job, lease an apartment or any other instance where proof of employment or income is needed. Learn More About Work Number

Using The Work Number

If you are asked to enter your User ID and password, please note the following:

  • Your User ID is your Social Security Number
  • Your password is the last four digits of your Social Security Number + your year of birth (YYYY)



Reasons for Verification

Need proof of employment or income?
Give the person needing proof of your employment the following information:

  • Your Social Security Number
  • Company USA Employer Code: 15799

Applying to a Social Service Agency?
Provide the information listed below to your case worker.

Attention Case Worker 
If you are not registered with The Work Number, visit www.theworknumber.com or call 1-800-996-7566.

All agencies must register to use the service. Once you are registered, please follow the steps below to obtain the verifications you need. If you are registered with The Work Number:

  • Go to www.theworknumber.com (or call 1-800-660-3399)
  • Select “Enter Site” under Social Service Verifiers
  • Select “Log In”
  • Enter your Username and select “Continue”
  • Enter your Password and select “Log in”
  • Enter the following information when instructed:
    • Company USA Employer Code: 15799
    • Applicant’s Social Security Number

Need to create a Salary Key?
A salary key is one form of employee authorization used to release income. If a verifier is requesting a salary key from you, please take the following steps: 

  • Go to www.theworknumber.com (or call 1-800-660-3399)
  • Select “I’m an Employee”
  • Select “Enter Site”
  • Enter the Employer Code (15799) and select “Log In”
  • Select “I want to provide proof of employment and income”
  • Enter your User ID and select “Continue”
  • Enter your PIN and select “Log in” 
  • Select “Create a Salary Key”
  • Select “Create Another Salary Key”
  • Write down the six-digit number provided.

Provide the person requesting the salary key with the following information:

  • Your Social Security Number
  • Company USA Employer Code: 15799
  • Your salary key

Written Verification Requests

Below are the steps for obtaining a written request if The Work Number cannot provide the employee’s information:

  1. Written verifications will be received in by mail when addressed to:
    Georgia Institute of Technology
    500 Tech Parkway NW
    Atlanta, Georgia 30332-0435
  2. Once received, written verification will be forwarded to the appropriate staff members within the Human Resources Records Department.
  3. The Human Resources Records Department will release and/or verify the following information for active or former employees, in written verification form only, when accompanied by a signed release from the current or former employee:
    1. Job Title
    2. Status (Active or Terminated)
    3. Date of Hire
    4. Date of Termination (if applicable)
    5. Salary Information
  4. Human Resources will complete standard employment verification within 48 business hours of receipt.

Note: Affiliates/Contractors cannot be verified through Georgia Tech. These verifications must take place when they are on payroll.
Note: If an employee was hired before January 2010, they will have to request a written employment verification.  The employee’s information cannot be accessible through The Work Number’s website.  For those occurrences, Georgia Tech will provide the employee a written employment verification.
