Updated Dual Appointment Process Aims to Expedite Approvals
The University System of Georgia (USG) has updated the process for employees seeking a dual appointment. The process aims to simplify and expedite approvals for employees lending their expertise to more than one USG institution at a time.
What are dual appointments?
In certain cases, the employment of staff, faculty, and/or students at two or more institutions within the USG simultaneously can help keep costs down, while maximizing resource use across the system. Dual appointments may be requested when the requesting institution needs specific knowledge or a certain skill set from an employee working at another institution.
There are a few considerations all parties involved should make before requesting a dual appointment arrangement:
- Whether all approval requirements have been met,
- Whether the transaction is in the best interest of the USG, and
- Whether the service will have a detrimental effect on the employee’s work commitments at their home institution
What is the updated intake and approval process for dual appointments?
Once it’s established that the dual appointment may move forward, employees can begin the new intake and approval process. The new intake is digitized and automated, allows electronic approvals, centralizes data entry and processing, and standardizes invoicing schedules.
The new process begins with an intake form the Decisions portal. For a step-by-step guide to dual appointments, click here. Please note: dual appointment approvals can take up to three months to process and require the signatures of any involved institutions’ presidents.
