Understanding why people leave can help impact the Institute’s culture.
Tech’s recently updated exit survey has been designed to provide deeper insights into employee turnover and enhance our ability to make data-driven decisions that improve the employee experience. The insights from the updated survey will better support key retention strategies and inform future HR initiatives. Below is a quick look at all the changes.
Why the Update?
Georgia Tech Human Resources (GTHR) recognized the need to revise the exit survey to better align with best practices and strategic workforce planning. The previous survey had several limitations:
- Data analysis challenges – Excessive open-ended questions made it difficult to quickly interpret trends.
- Limited data visualization and accessibility – The absence of dashboards restricted real-time analysis.
- Filtering and categorization issues – Open-field responses made it difficult to segment data by division and department.
- Overemphasis on leadership – Previous survey design skewed insights primarily toward management issues, missing broader factors influencing employee departures.
Benefits of the New Exit Survey
The revised survey provides a more comprehensive view of the employee experience, workplace culture, and key drivers of turnover and modernizes the survey for users in the following ways:
- Interactive dashboard for analytics – A new dynamic dashboard enables leaders to filter and analyze exit trends efficiently.
- Improved data collection structure – The new format ensures better data integrity and usability for decision-making.
- Supporting our employees – This updated approach helps us build a more engaging and supportive workplace by identifying areas for growth in career development, leadership effectiveness, and workplace culture.
