Winter Storm Modified Operations, Inclement Weather Time Reporting Details
Due to the projected impact of a winter storm and with the safety and well-being of our community in mind, Georgia Tech will have Modified Operations and Digital Learning days on Friday, Jan. 10 and Saturday, Jan. 11.
The campus emergency notification system, GTENS shared an announcement at 2:22 p.m. today.
Only critical campus operations remain in-person.
On Friday, Jan. 10, the 500 Tech Parkway building (ASC/HR) will be closed. Customer Service, Information Technology (IT) Services, and Human Resources (HR) Services will be offered virtually during the building closure. Employees may call 404.385.1111 or submit a ticket through the Administrative Services portal.
We encourage supervisors and timekeepers to exercise flexibility during this time.
If employees are unable to work due to the storm’s impact caused by power outages or road blockages, they should communicate with their supervisors and refer to the inclement weather policy.
Onboarding, Hiring and Interviews
- All in-person I-9 verification appointments will be rescheduled. The ASC Onboarding and Hiring (O&H) teams will contact scheduled appointment holders.
- Supervisors should contact their new hires with start dates of Friday, Jan. 10, advise them not to report to campus, and provide duties/meetings that can be performed remotely or materials to review virtually. As new employees, they have likely not received the GTENS notice.
- In-person job interviews will either be shifted to Teams or rescheduled for next week. Talent Advisors will communicate these changes with interviewees, hiring managers and search committee/panel members. If there are any interviews arranged directly by the hiring manager that the Talent Advisor may not be aware of, please ensure the hiring manager communicates those details.
Timekeeping and Reporting
The Inclement Weather policy provides the following guidance related to paid time under these circumstances:
- Benefit-eligible employees who work on the Atlanta campus are eligible for inclement weather pay on Jan. 10 and Jan. 11
- Benefit-eligible employees who work remotely in the Atlanta area and lose power during the storm can also receive paid inclement weather time if their normal schedule includes the time included in the GTENS alert.
- Employees who had scheduled time off on Jan. 10 and Jan. 11, due to an approved vacation, sick, or other leave type are also eligible for inclement weather pay.
