Coming Soon: Updated Telework Request Process

On March 31, all employees received a high-level email signaling the transition to in-person work as the standard for staff by Aug. 1. Telework will be limited and only approved in cases that align with job duties and business needs.

Cross-functional working groups, including staff from Georgia Tech Human Resources, Information Technology, Parking and Transportation Services, Infrastructure and Sustainability, Staff Council, and more, have been working to prepare for the shift. With feedback gathered from multiple engagement opportunities across the Institute over the past several weeks, updates to existing policy, the approval process, job postings, and role eligibility are underway.

What will happen between now and Aug. 1?

On-campus, in-person work will become the standard beginning with the 2025–26 academic year. All staff members are expected to follow their unit’s standard work schedule. Faculty will continue to maintain their on-campus presence consistent with fulfilling their instructional, scholarly, service, and student mentorship duties.

Current telework agreements will be frozen on April 30. Existing approved agreements may remain in effect through July 31.

Starting May 1 (or soon thereafter), a new telework request system will launch in ServiceNow (or JIRA for GTRI).

  • Form submissions are only required for hybrid or full-remote requests — not for employees following their unit’s standard in-person schedule or teleworking on an occasional basis.
  • Telework requests must be approved by the requestor’s:
    • Supervisor.
    • Department head or school chair.
    • Relevant cabinet member, dean, or vice provost.
  • Full-remote requests will also require the approval of the chief human resources officer.
  • All telework requests to be considered under the new process must be submitted by Aug. 1.

Anyone without an approved arrangement in the new system will be expected to work their department’s standard schedule.

Supervisors are encouraged to attend the monthly People Leader Forum on April 29 at 1 p.m. to learn more about the form and process updates. Registration is required.
