Student Hiring Improvement Project | New Student Resources

The Fall semester is approaching and Georgia Tech Human Resources (GTHR) remains committed to improving the student employee experience at Georgia Tech. In the spring, the Student Hiring Improvement Project released new resources to support student employees, including a 2021 Payroll Calendar and “Understanding Your Paycheck” Resource Guide.  

Today, we are excited to announce additional resources are now available.

Do you want to be part of the student employee experience improvement efforts at Tech? The Georgia Tech Student Employee Advisory Board is a newly formed group that will guide Georgia Tech Human Resources (GTHR) on matters related to the on-campus student employee experience. The board will provide feedback on how to best support student employees, identify student employment challenges, and recommend potential solutions and improvements.

Georgia Tech Human Resources (GTHR) continues improvement work to demonstrate students are indeed our top priority. Student employees comprise more than half of Georgia Tech’s total workforce, so it is critical that they experience the most seamless hiring process we can possibly provide. 

You're Invited: Student Hiring Improvement Project Focus Group

January 22, 2021

Georgia Tech Human Resources (GTHR) recently launched a new initiative to review and improve the Student Hiring process across the Institute. The Student Hiring Improvement Project will complete a comprehensive review of current processes, identify areas of opportunity, and design improvements to student hiring. We will implement initial process improvements in time for the Summer 2021 student hiring season.

Change to Student Assistant Time Reporting

January 21, 2021

During a recent audit, a system error was discovered that only impacts Resident Asstants (RAs) who have additional Student Assistant (SA) positions. The error removed the required security protocols from these students’ time keeping methods, incorrectly providing them with the ability to ‘back date’ and edit their own time reporting documents. This error is being corrected for those RAs who are also SA Web Clock users, and the change will go into effect on January 24.

HR UPDATE HIRING NEW STUDENT EMPLOYEES Do you have new student employees this semester? Prior to starting their new position, student employees need to complete an online Student Hire packet, followed by mandatory in-person onboarding. Students who have worked for Georgia Tech within the last 24 months or are supported on fellowships administered through the Bursar’s office do not need to complete new hire onboarding."

Student Pay Challenges -Temporary Path for Off-Cycle Checks

We recently learned a number of employees have not been paid due to various challenges related to the timing and processing of their new hire paperwork. Ensuring all Georgia Tech employees are accurately paid on time is our highest priority. To expedite payroll processing for impacted employees, GTHR will temporarily ease some off-cycle payroll restrictions for June 2020.

Momentarily we will send the attached details on how time should be reported for Federal Work Study (FWS) employees. This message will go to all FWS students and their managers/supervisors.

ACTION: New Student Job Codes| OneUSG Connect

To ensure our data aligns with the correct pay frequency, pay groups, and IPEDS as we move to OneUSG Connect, the team needs to change job codes for a portion of our student population. These changes will be effective immediately and will not require a PSF. Position and job data will be updated. ACTION: Below you will find new student codes. Begin using them immediately. Additionally, please share this message with employees who hire students.
