As a University System of Georgia (USG) employee, you have numerous benefit options available to you. Open Enrollment is an annual opportunity for you to review current benefit elections and determine whether adjustments are needed. In 2020, USG and Georgia Tech continue to offer a comprehensive benefits package to employees. Key updates are noted below. 

This is an active enrollment year! Which means you are required to take action if you want healthcare coverage for 2020. You can enroll by visiting the USG Website.

USG Open Enrollment 2020

Tobacco Surcharge

During the 2020 open enrollment period, you must certify your status as a tobacco user or non-user, as well as the status of any dependents (age 18+) enrolled in your University System of Georgia (USG) healthcare plan. Effective Jan. 1, 2020, employees enrolled in the USG healthcare plans and their covered dependents (age 18+) will be charged a $100 per tobacco user per month surcharge for using tobacco products. Working Spouse Surcharge

Beginning in 2020, there will be a new surcharge of $100 per month applied to employees who choose to cover their spouses in the USG healthcare plan if the employee’s spouse works for an employer other than the USG and receives an offer of coverage from that employer. Learn more about the Working Spouse Surcharge 

Georgia Tech-Specific Benefits Via TechWorks

These Georgia Tech benefits will not be accessible through OneUSG Connect – Benefits. They will only be available through TechWorks through "Benefits Summary."  

Georgia Tech Identity Theft

  • New for 2020 USG secured a new vendor for identity protection services called InfoArmor.  
  • The Georgia Tech Identity Theft program will end on December 31, 2019.
  • If you would like to continue the Georgia Tech Identify Theft program please call their member services department at 1-800-305-6816 for direct payment options.

Shared Sick Leave Program

  • Allows eligible employees who do not have enough sick leave of their own to receive a donation of hours for FMLA qualified illnesses
  • Enrollment only takes place through TechWorks during Open Enrollment (Read the Policy)

Unum Whole Life Insurance

  • This Plan will end on December 31, 2019. Unum will send a letter to everyone enrolled in early January. 
  • Anyone that would like to continue their Whole Life Plan(s) will need to respond to the letter sent to them within 31 days to set up direct pay for their policies.

Georgia Tech-Specific Benefits Via OneUSG Connect

Delta Dental HMO

USG offers its employees a choice of dental plans to help minimize out-of-pocket dental expenses. As a Georgia Tech employee, you have access to a third plan option — Delta Dental HMO, which is not communicated in the USG Open Enrollment newsletter.

Retirees

Please note, this is an Active Enrollment, which means you are required to take action if you are enrolling in healthcare coverage for 2020.

  • Review and make any necessary updates to your beneficiaries.
  • Review and make any updates to your contact information.
  • If you are under age 65, you will continue to have access to USG group medical, life, dental and vision coverage.
  • Three months before you or a covered spouse turn 65, you must enroll in Medicare Part B. Approximately two months before your 65th birthday, the Aon Retiree Health Exchange will reach out to you to help you enroll in retiree healthcare coverage.
  • If you are over age 65 and have healthcare and/or pharmacy coverage through the Aon Retiree Health Exchange, information on your 2020 healthcare benefits can be found at www.retiree.aon.com/usg or by calling your dedicated Benefits Advisor at 1-866-212-5052.

Your Open Enrollment Resources

How to Enroll

Open Enrollment will take place through the OneUSG Connect – Benefits system. This system was developed by the University System of Georgia for all public Georgia Institutions.

Select your benefits over the phone by calling the Benefits Call Center or through the online portal that can be reached through TechWorks.
